OUR PASTOR

Scan_Pic0026Pastor Matthew McEwen has been serving at Holt for nine years, and is so happy that his church loves him despite being an avid Montreal Canadiens hockey fan.

Aside from hockey, Pastor Matthew enjoys fishing and being an avid keeper of fish (he loves to talk about his planted tanks to anyone who will listen!).  Also a “fisher for men”, Pastor Matthew has a passion to see his church committed to prayer, life together, and growing in their personal walks with God so that they can serve their family, friends, and community.

The Bible is full of so many great stories that challenge us to ask a lot of big questions, and as Pastor, he endeavours to have messages that leave a lot of food thought.  While he strives to provide applications to daily life, he wants his church to have ears to hear what God is saying to them and to commit themselves to drawing their own Spirit-led response.  He loves to address some of the lesser talked about issues in the evangelical church (past sermon topics have ranged from mental health to creation care), and is particularly concerned that believers develop a framework where they are comfortable wrestling with the mysteries of God, particularly in troubling times of sadness, grief, and lament.

He holds a Bachelors degree in English from the University of Ottawa and both a M.Div. and Th.M. from Tyndale Seminary.  He is currently pursuing a D.Min (doctorate in ministry) from Tyndale Seminary in the area of spiritual formation.

Please feel free to contact him anytime at the church 905-473-3783 or use the contact us page to send an email.
